Evaluation of Some Phenolic Acids in Diabetic Neuropathy

Abstract: Background: Streptozotocin (STZ) induced neuropathy is widely used preclinical model for diabetic (DN). DN majorly resulted due to nitrosative and oxidative stress by hyperglycemia. Phenolic acids are polyphenols with free radical scavenging anti-inflammatory neuroprotectiveaction. Methods: In this study STZ (55mg/kg, i.p) was administered in male Wistar rats animals hyperglycemia (fasting blood glucose ≥ 200mg/dl) were further study. Behavioural changes cold allodynia, mechanical hyperalgesia, heat allodynia assessed weekly. Motor Nerve Conduction Velocity (MNCV) also evaluated. Reduced Glutathione Malondialdehyde estimated indicate stress. C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Insulin assay, serum electrolytes (Na+, K+), TNF-α, IL-6 INF-γ estimated. Isolated sciatic nerve histopathologically studied support the results. Results: Treatment syringic acid (SY) 12.5, 25, 50 mg/kg of Sinapic (SP) 5, 10, 20 orally 5 weeks has shown reduce level. found be improved weekly SY SP dose dependent manner. treatment able increase antioxidant GSH MDA level cell. Gabapentin, treated have decrease CRP. normalised groups. Histopathological revealed protective effect gabapentin, showing reverted neuronal damage.
